Wesay Change

WeSay Change Project was created in 2019 by AJHR to support survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) across Liberia. Launched in 2019, it is the first youth-led initiative of its kind to map out and connect referral centers in all 15 counties, making lifesaving information accessible to those who need it most.

But WeSay Change is more than just a resource hub; it’s a safe online space where youth advocate for justice, survivors find support, and communities come together to break the silence around abuse.

Key Features:

Interactive Map of SGBV services by county

Mental health & psychosocial support access

Story-sharing space for survivors and advocates

Education on consent, rights, and reporting

Youth-led campaigns promoting safety and accountability

National 1K Walk

In 2018, AJHR organized the National 1K Walk by mobilizing over 1,000 children and young people to march through the streets of Monrovia in a powerful stand against child abuse, school dropouts, and sexual violence. The National 1K Walk is more than a protest; it’s a movement. A movement that declares: Liberia’s children deserve better. And we won’t stop walking until they’re safe.

The walk served as a national call to action and seeks to raise awareness about the urgent need to protect children’s rights and hold leaders accountable for building a safer future. Youth carried banners, chanted messages of change, and shared testimonies that challenged silence, stigma, and injustice.

Impact Highlights:

  • Amplified youth voices on national platforms

  • Engaged policymakers, community leaders, and the media

  • Sparked conversations in schools and communities

  • Laid the groundwork for future campaigns like WeSay Change

Sex & Consent Fair

AJHR’s Sex and Consent Fair is a youth-led fair designed to educate, engage, and empower young people around issues of sexual health, consent, and bodily autonomy.

  • Hear from survivors, experts, and peer educators

  • Challenge harmful myths and break the silence around SGBV

What to Expect:

  • Live Talks & Panel Discussions with survivors, health professionals, legal experts, and peer educators

  • Forum Theatre & Role Play to unpack real-life situations around consent and power dynamics

  • Art, Music, and Media exhibitions amplifying youth voices against SGBV

  • Educational Booths & Safe Space Corners providing access to reproductive health info, counseling, and reporting tools

  • Consent Pledges & Signature Walls for youth to commit to creating a culture of safety and respect
